"It is impossible to discuss the Brazilian Heavy Metal scene, since its beginning, in the early 80's, without mentioning the name of Vulcano, from Santos, São Paulo. Its first album, although not considered an official release by the band - an 7" EP, published in 1982 and still sung in Portuguese - was a landmark in the history of Brazilian underground music, and influenced deeply the musical life of bass/guitar player Zhema Rodero, who decided to follow even more the paths of Heavy Metal.
Such sublime ways guided him into one of the most classic Brazilian Heavy Metal line ups ever, formed by himself, Angel (vocals), Soto Jr. and Flávio (guitars), and Laudir Piloni (drums). This group, a nuclear powered industry of distorted riffs, yelded one of the most important, if not the most important, Latin American Black metal album of the decade. The release of the album Bloody Vengeance in 1986, the third album in the band's career, surprised a very young country, which was still crawling in terms of Heavy Metal. The album was a truly turning point, surpassing the 70's heavy/hard rock of such bands as O Terço, Made In Brazil, Tutti Frutti e Joelho de Porco, and therefore setting the new guidelines which would be followed by such bands as Sepultura and Sarcófago. To listen to this release is to acknowledge that Vulcano was well ahead of its time. To listen again to Bloody Vengeance is to realize that Heavy Metal has its own cicles, such as the cicles of life, and that the album can be admired by both the old headbangers and the new generation, which was born in the same year as the album was released."
