Thespian was formed in December 1997, by guitar players Adelmo Carneiro and Geovani Carvalho, in Manhuaçu, State of Minas Gerais. It was a serious work proposal from the beginning, aiming at composing new songs. The rest of the band was recruited among friends and musicians who had always worked together. When co-founder Geovani Carvalho left the band, guitar player Vinícius Bragança was invited for the position, and the line-up settled down with: Marcus Ravelli (Vocal), Adelmo Carneiro (Guitar), Caco Bragança (Bass), Humberto Grilli (Drums) and Vinicius Bragança (Guitar). The band then headed for the studio.
The "Kingdom of Sand" demo CD was released in March 2000, and featured the band's first four compositions. The "good old" 80's Heavy Metal and the contemporary Melodic Metal, as well as ancient medieval music, mainly influenced these songs, reflecting each member's individual appreciations.
This album received many appraisals, either from public and the specialized media, in Brazil and abroad. The band was then invited to be the opening act for three important names of the world's metal scene: Stratovarius, Dio and Angra. These shows took place in Belo Horizonte, capital of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Another line up change followed, and keyboardist Peterson Pessoa became part of the group, which became a sextet.
These presentations were acclaimed by the metal public, and the band was noticed by many Brazilian labels. The band received many proposals, but decided in July 2002 to sign with the world famous Cogumelo Records. Their first official album was recorded in September, 2002. Named "Marching to the Future", it was released inFebruary 2003.
This album represents a new phase in the band's career, for it stands as a solid proof of professionalism and maturity after a five year long effort. It reinforces Thespian's initial proposal of a band endlessly struggling to achieve musical quality and originality.
Honesty and dedication, side by side with talent and technique, turns Thespian into an example that the passion for Metal can surpass all difficulties to produce a work of quality.
The year of 2004 witnessed yet another line-up change: after the departure of Adelmo Carneiro, Caco Bragança and Vinícius Bragança. The band recruited new members: Luciano Inac (guitar), Reinaldo Figueiredo (guitar), and Júlio Di Buccio (bass).
The new team is working hard and will soon announce its forthcoming album.
